It's the official language of Ukraine. The script used is the Cyrillic alphabet, which has unique letters. The closest language to Ukrainian is Belarusian. Both share many words and grammar structures because of their shared history. Russian is another language that has similarities with Ukrainian, but they are distinct languages. Many people in Ukraine can speak or understand both Ukrainian and Russian.
